How does Google Analytics help you analyze user behavior?

In short, Google Analytics is a free Google program that measures and collects data on the behavior of website visitors. It allows us to see how users behave on our site and which pages are most popular. Google Analytics also helps us understand whether our site is engaging with visitors or whether they're leaving immediately after landing on the first page.

Using Google Analytics, we can measure specific customer behaviors, such as which keyword prompted them to make a purchase, submit an inquiry via a contact form, or download an offer file. We can easily determine which sources generate the most traffic to a website. This is a powerful tool that can be successfully used by micro, small, medium, and large corporations. The tool can be easily adapted to any size company!

How to verify the correctness of your Google Analytics code?

First, you should check whether you have Google Analytics installed on your website (this seems obvious, but unfortunately, many companies still don't use this tool).

  1. Google Analytics It's completely free, with no annual fees, usage fees, etc. (there's a GA Premium version, but that's for large companies, so I'm skipping that part of the post). The only cost is any fees for the time spent implementing the service (many agencies do this as part of their standard service).
  2. If you have a website, ask its creator if they have created a Google Analytics account (if so, request access).
  3. You can also check it out yourself. Use Chrome and download the Tag Assistant add-on (by Google).
After installation, go to your website, click on the small box in the upper right and select "check this page now".
    analytics1

If the service is installed, information about it will appear, if not – the message "no Analytics tag" will appear
By the way, you can check if the code is installed correctly (green). If you see red, you need to correct the code installation, otherwise the data collected for analysis may be incomplete (or missing altogether).
  4. If you use remarketing, the website should include information that the website uses cookies.
  5. If you want to collect additional data about your users, such as demographic data, you must also activate this function in Google Analytics.
    analytics2
  6. If you want to create remarketing lists via Google Analytics, you should also activate this feature in Google Analytics (in the past, you had to modify the Google Analytics code, but today there is no need for that!)
    analytics3
  7.  It is also worth checking whether the Google Analytics tracking code on your website is up to date (Google Analytics Universal code)
  8. Consider what you want to measure on your website. The possibilities are endless, for example:
    • go to the contact tab,
    • making a purchase,
    • go to the offer tab,
    • making a purchase, broken down into individual stages of the process (we will check whether buyers do not abandon the purchase during one of the stages),
    • downloading a file,
    • clicking a button, email,
    • longer time on the page than x,
    • a page with a 404 error (you can easily check if there are any errors on the page),
    • watching a movie,
    • itd.
  9. Check if your account Google AdWords is connected to Google Analytics. Only then will all campaign data be accurately measured in Analytics.
    analytics4
  10. Google Analytics gives you access to many interesting reports, such as:

    • traffic sources broken down by goal achievement
      analytics5

    • funnel channels grouped by sales (if you have an online store, you can track sales by sales value)
      analytics6

    • funnel channels grouped by sales (if you have one) online shop, you can track sales in terms of sales value)
      analytics7

    • the most popular and valuable pages across the entire website
      analytics8

You can create any reports by compiling selected data to analyze the effects.
There is no need to look at 200 reports – they can be replaced with 2-3 reports that are key to your business, based on which you can draw conclusions that will work best for you.
  11. You can create ready-made information panels presenting key data on a selected issue, e.g. the performance of our website

No. The basic version of the tool, perfectly adequate for micro, small, and medium-sized businesses, is completely free – there are no annual fees or commissions. The only cost may be the time of a specialist or agency needed to implement the code on the website.

The possibilities are vast. Analytics allows you to track specific user actions, such as:

  • making a purchase (including checking at what stage of the shopping cart customers abandon their purchases),
  • filling out the contact form or going to a specific tab,
  • downloading a file (e.g. PDF offer),
  • time spent on the website and watching a video,
  • errors encountered by users (e.g. error 404).

The easiest way to verify this yourself is to install a free Chrome browser plugin called Tag Assistant (by Google). After visiting your website and running the add-on, you'll immediately see a message indicating the tag's presence. Green indicates successful installation, while red indicates errors that prevent data from being collected.

Yes, and this is crucial for assessing the profitability of your ads. Analytics should absolutely be linked to your Google Ads account. Only then will you get precise data that will show you exactly which keywords and campaigns are driving the desired actions.

Absolutely not. Instead of wading through dozens of standard tables, you can configure your own dashboards. Simply compile two or three key reports perfectly tailored to your business (e.g., traffic sources and sales funnels) to quickly draw conclusions.
