In a search engine, users receive a list of results in which dozens of ads and organic listings compete for attention. In ChatGPT, they receive a single answer, and beneath it, a single, clearly marked sponsored message that doesn't have to compete with dozens of neighboring links.
The way queries are formulated also differs. We enter two- or three-word phrases into the search engine, while ChatGPT asks full questions – including budget, situation description, and expectations. This ensures that AI ads reach people whose intentions the system knows much more about than the phrase alone would suggest. The third difference concerns the competition: the channel is still developing, so fewer advertisers are competing for the same user than in mature auction systems.
