Artificial intelligence in advertising – definition and impact on campaign effectiveness

As mentioned, AI is short for "artificial intelligence," which literally means artificial intelligence. But what is artificial intelligence and how does it translate into virtual reality experiences? It defines programs, tools, or applications that use machine learning and attempt to imitate customer behavior to, among other things, improve advertising efficiency. Artificial intelligence in the marketing environment consists of AI algorithms that process the information they receive, analyze it, and identify patterns. This allows them to more accurately predict human behavior and recommend products customers are actually interested in. Such systems are already highly developed, allowing for increasingly broader practical applications, including in marketing.

What is AI and how does it help increase advertising effectiveness?

AI marketing, simply put, refers to promotional and advertising processes powered by artificial intelligence that facilitate reaching your target audience. Using AI in marketing is possible in many ways. Below, we present some of the most popular technologies.

How do AI solutions differ from marketing chatbots?

Artificial intelligence is ideal for supporting customer service, especially when it comes to interactions on social media and websites. Chatbots, used by a growing number of companies, are an ideal example of this technology. These programs can conduct conversations with users and quickly provide them with the precise information they're looking for. They are typically used to automate responses to frequently asked questions. Regardless of the type of business, customer service departments often boil down to answering the same, often very simple, and most popular questions repeatedly. Even human marketers can become weary of this approach. This is precisely where chatbots excel. Their huge advantage is their 24/7 availability. In their work, they strive to reduce customer service costs and improve its quality, while simultaneously freeing up employees to handle more complex issues more quickly. This AI marketing approach is being adopted by a growing number of companies – and not just the largest ones!

Content generation by artificial intelligence – support for marketers

Marketing automation is another effective way to leverage AI algorithms for advertising purposes. It automatically adjusts campaign parameters to the customer based on collected and analyzed data (e.g., stored in cookies). This type of AI advertising can be used, for example, in Google Ads campaigns. Artificial intelligence is highly effective at precisely targeting ads (that is, deciding who receives advertising content to maximize its effectiveness).

Artificial Intelligence in Marketing – A Comprehensive Solution Assessment

AI marketing can also be translated into effective trend prediction, the most significant digital touchpoints a customer will have with your brand, and behavior estimation. Intelligent algorithms can use advanced data analysis to generate the most likely scenarios for future events. Knowing your customers' future behaviors and preferences allows you to tailor your offerings and marketing messages accordingly, increasing their effectiveness.

Automatic content creation – how does AI support content marketing?

We asked an expert from SEMSTORM for a comment:

AI-powered content creation is gaining momentum. We already know we're on the eve of the release of a new model, called GPT-4. It promises to take content generation to a whole new level. OpenAI recently released its ChatGPT tool, which has reignited a lively debate in the industry. We're wondering if this is a worthless curiosity or truly the end of copywriters and journalists.

As content creators, we've had plenty of time to become accustomed to AI writing. Despite this, I still observe considerable distrust in this field. The solution quickly caught on wherever there's a need to outsource bulk content creation . Without human oversight and proofreading, unfortunately, the resulting content is often low-quality. Others are more wary of AI. I think this stems in part from a lack of understanding of the technology and its overuse or unethical use. On the other hand, it also raises the fear, which accompanies every technological advancement, that a new tool will take away creators' jobs.

It's best to always remember that all AI tools only support the writer. They allow content creation to be faster and avoid the curse of knowledge. However, they won't replace a human – someone with the skills and ability to correct factual errors and give content a unique tone.

AI can replace authors who refuse to improve and stubbornly churn out the lowest-quality content. Today, with a single click, we can generate longer forms, such as articles or blog posts. However, these often differ in quality from valuable texts that require additional proofreading.

However, I see a gap emerging in the market, one that could be filled by a new type of creator, copywriter, or journalist. This, of course, concerns someone who builds their competitive advantage on working with a machine. This allows them to create even long texts faster. At the same time, they add enormous value to such content – the idea and plan, supervision of execution, guiding the artificial intelligence on the right track, and editing and proofreading. Those who master this work model will be able to deliver high-quality content faster and with less effort. To maximize savings, unfortunately, you need to learn how to work with a machine and what pitfalls to avoid along the way," Milena Majchrzak, Managing Director of SEMSTORM, told us.

Artificial Intelligence in Marketing – A Comprehensive Solution Assessment

AI advertising is intended to be cheaper, simpler, and more effective. Properly utilized, it can already deliver tangible benefits and expand a company's capabilities. In a few or a dozen years, when AI algorithms become even more advanced, AI-powered marketing activities may become commonplace. Although opinions on AI marketing are divided, it cannot be denied that under the right circumstances, it is profitable. The technology is relatively new, but it is constantly evolving, so its importance will likely only grow.

The advantages of AI marketing include:

  • the possibility of precise advertising targeting (showing advertising content only to those consumers who meet the criteria of potential company customers);
  • easier ad optimization and adapting them to consumer needs;
  • better tracking of marketing performance and using this data to create more effective campaigns in the future;
  • the ability to predict trends and future consumer behaviorand thus better tailor marketing content;
  • precise insight into customer activities and the ability to draw conclusions from their behavior patterns in order to adapt the marketing message or offer;
  • possibility of reducing expenses for employment in marketing departments (AI algorithms can partially replace employees, especially in the most repetitive activities).

This doesn't mean, however, that AI advertising, marketing, and AI-related technologies are without their drawbacks. There are many ways to leverage AI, which can have a positive impact on organizational functioning and marketing, but can also be overwhelming. This can also complicate the selection of appropriate methods, thus reducing the effectiveness of AI-assisted actions. Furthermore, many AI and machine learning solutions require human assistance —some processes must still be performed manually. Furthermore, algorithms learn gradually, so their performance and predictions may be less than ideal in the initial phase. Sometimes, there are problems processing or interpreting certain information, which can also lead to erroneous conclusions. Consumers also don't always welcome AI advertising, as they may feel that too close a match to their behavior and preferences is overly invasive and dangerous.
