Types of online search advertising

It's also worth taking a look at the different types of search ads before you start setting up your first campaign. You might include:

  • text ads – resembling organic search results,
  • product ads – in the form of tiles at the top of the page directing to the page of a specific product in the online store,
  • graphic and video ads – published on search network partners.

You can choose the type of campaign you use depending on your goals. Text ads primarily increase website traffic, product ads stimulate purchases, and image and video ads serve, among other things, to increase brand awareness and enhance brand image. Therefore, it's worth considering in advance what matters most to you!

How to set up an ad on Google – first steps

Setting up an ad in Google Ads isn't as complicated as it might seem. Below, you'll find a step-by-step guide on how to get started with Google Ads .

  1. Start by logging into your account and selecting "Campaigns," then clicking the plus (+) icon or the "New Campaign" button. This will take you to creating your first ad.
  2. You'll be redirected to the objective selection screen. You'll need to choose the outcome you want your campaign to achieve (sales, website traffic, brand awareness, etc.). Alternatively, you can choose "Create a campaign without using objective guidance." In that case, you'll need to set all the parameters yourself.
  3. The third step is to select your campaign type. Google Ads offers several ad types. Select "Search Network" and click "Next."
  4. The next step is to name the campaign (for advertiser purposes, making it easier to identify). In the "Networks" section, deselect the Google Display Network. Combining Display and Search Network campaigns is generally not recommended, as these channels achieve different goals.
  5. Once you have completed these steps, your Google Ads campaign will be saved in drafts. You can return to the configuration at any time.

Settings – Google Ads campaign step by step

  1. The next step is detailed campaign settings. These allow you to target your ads to specific audiences. It's crucial to understand your target audience before proceeding with this step. While you can certainly target your ads to a very broad audience, this typically generates high costs and yields poor results. What targeting options are available?
  • The first field is the location. You can target your ad to internet users from Poland, the entire world, or any other location. You can narrow your display, for example, to people residing in a specific province or city. You can also add exclusions, allowing you to choose a wider targeting area without targeting specific locations.
  • The next stage is languages. When targeting Poles, it is worth choosing both Polish and English, as many people in our country use a browser set to English.
  • The next section is "Recipients". This allows you to enter data such as demographics, online activity, or interests. This allows you to further refine your ad targeting. However, this is optional. You can refine your criteria even while the campaign is running. You can use the system's suggestions to refine your ad audience. Available options include "Targeting," which allows you to narrow your campaign's reach, and "Observation," which allows you to monitor criteria and set custom audience bids.
  • The next step is to establish a budget. Enter the average daily amount you want to spend on advertising.
  • Then you are waiting for defining the rate optimization model. There are many options in this area. For example, you can set a maximum bid-per-click limit or focus on obtaining the maximum number of clicks within a given budget. If you want to increase sales, tracking conversions will be useful. Impression share, on the other hand, is an option that allows you to maximize the frequency of your ad being displayed.

After all this, your Google Ads campaign is already pre-configured.

But this is not the end of the settings and possibilities they offer!

Google Ads Automated – how does it work? Who can benefit and what?

Ad group setup

The finish line is in sight! All that's left is to configure ad groups that segment your products or services, allowing you to tailor your message to your audience. You can create standard or dynamic ads.

Standard Ads and Dynamic Ads – The Differences

  • Standard groups are based on the keywords you entered.
  • Dynamic groups They are based on the analysis of the content on your website. They are created automatically.

You can set a separate bid for each group . Keywords can be used with different match criteria (e.g., exact or broad).

Creating a text ad

Configuring the ad is one thing, but specifying the ad content is another. The wizard allows you to preview how it will appear in search engines. You select the URL to which the user will be redirected, and choose the content for the headline and ad itself.

Good to know!

The headline can consist of up to three parts, and the description can contain up to two lines of text. Character limits are indicated for each field.

When selecting dynamic ads, the URL and headline are automatically selected. Users are only required to create a description of the ad, which should be no more than two lines of text.

How to create advertising content?

Above all, remember to match it to your keywords and target audience. The content should encourage clicks. Ideally, it should include your main keyword. After clicking "Done," you can add additional ads to the same group.

Once approved, all that's left is to wait for the results. However, it's important to note that ad approval can take up to several days (usually one business day). Afterward, it's a good idea to stay on top of your game—monitoring how your campaign is performing and what results it's bringing. It's also worth remembering that even if you exceed your budget on a single day, you won't exceed your budgeted bid over the course of a month. A well-placed Google Ads search ad should quickly begin to achieve your goals. Some parameters can also be adjusted during the campaign.

Effective Google Ads text advertising – what is worth knowing?

Google Ads is a tool with a wealth of possibilities. Even a simple text ad can be configured and customized in numerous ways. With the right settings, it's also very effective. How can you ensure optimal budget utilization?

Above all, remember:

  • highlighting the unique features of the offer,
  • use of keywords in the advertising text,
  • matching the ad to the target group (your customer),
  • consistency of the ad content with the website it directs to,
  • using CTA (Call to Action – e.g. "buy", "check now", "register", "get a quote"),
  • adapting advertising to mobile device users.

Don't be afraid to experiment, for example, by creating several variations of the same campaign with different settings and then testing which ones perform best. This will quickly make you an expert in effective advertising! Google Ads tools are among the most useful tools – you'll find a wealth of valuable data on ad performance in your profile.

For example, track your Google Ads Quality Score . This metric measures how relevant your ad and landing page are to users who search for relevant keywords. Of course, this is only a rough estimate of your campaign, but it's a good way to check if it needs optimization.
