Positioning – why is it worth talking to your specialist?

Signing an SEO contract means that both parties share a common goal: to get the website under contract to the top 10 in search engine results. It's a classic win-win arrangement – if this plan succeeds, both parties will be satisfied with the results of the collaboration. Logically, therefore, neither party has any incentive to hinder the implementation of the agreement. Collaboration simply pays off. Is this always the case in practice? Let's explore what a good collaboration between client and agency looks like from the perspective of an SEO specialist.

Cooperation with an SEO agency

First – transfer access to the site

Website access is crucial for SEO specialists – it allows them to optimize the website. Depending on the technology used to build the website, the SEO specialist will expect access to: 1) the CMS (administration panel), 2) FTP (the server hosting the website), and 3) CMS + FTP. The more access the SEO specialist has to the website, the more optimization work they can perform. For example, if we have a WordPress-based website, the SEO specialist should be assigned administrator privileges, not editor privileges. If CMS or FTP access changes, it should be shared with the SEO specialist. For clarity, the sooner the SEO specialist receives access to the website, the better. An initial audit performed when the website's structure can be previewed is more valuable.

Secondly, give your SEO some attention

We know that SEO specialists are usually people the client hasn't even met, sending messages written in strange language. However, it's worth taking a closer look, reading them, and responding to them. We have a policy of not making any visible changes to a client's website without their approval. Examples of such changes include adding new subpages or adding content to the site. It's important to review our suggestions and respond to them as quickly as possible. We understand that not every idea will receive unconditional approval immediately, but it's worth letting us know about your concerns. We'll do our best to address them. Waiting weeks or months for the green light to implement content or expand a website isn't conducive to SEO effectiveness.

Thirdly – inform about changes on the website

We understand that a website changes and adapts to the needs of the company it represents. Therefore, changes to a website are not a threat to a SEO specialist. It's better to provide advance notice and over-disclosure than under-disclosure. With knowledge of planned changes, the SEO specialist can better prepare for them and propose solutions that minimize the undesirable side effects of these changes. It's worth noting that changes (website redesign, new website, etc.) can cause a drop in rankings – this is a risk you must take into account.

Fourthly – take care of the security of your website and its proper functioning

Even the best- positioned website won't reach the top 10 if it's experiencing hacking attacks, intrusions, is experiencing stability issues (server issues, unpaid hosting, etc.), or has an outdated version of its CMS. Another potentially dangerous situation is when access to the website (CMS, FTP) is provided by people you don't necessarily trust, such as a previous SEO company or the website's creator with whom the owner is in conflict. Such unauthorized access can result in, for example, the website being deindexed (real-life examples).

Fifth – be patient

In SEO, few things happen overnight, and they're usually not pretty. The SEO specialist's work must be indexed by search engine spiders, which can take some time. For any given activity to translate into ranking increases, it must be noticed by Google's search engine spiders. This usually doesn't happen overnight. To speed up the search engine spiders' response to implemented changes, the SEO specialist reports them using the Google Search Console tool. However, it's up to the search engine spiders themselves to determine when they'll index the implemented changes. In practice, their response time can vary from a few hours to even several weeks.

Sixth – don't delete our work

For optimization changes introduced by an SEO specialist to be effective and translate into ranking increases, they must remain on the website. Their removal—intentional or accidental—will result in ranking declines. Therefore, it's not worth removing them—for the good of your website.

Seventh – it is worth talking (or writing to each other)

Thanks to the power of communication, many misunderstandings can be easily resolved or avoided. Our SEO specialists and account managers are available to answer any questions you may have regarding the implementation of your contract.
